9 Ways to Break Generational Curses

You don't have to let sin and shame cripple you. These steps can help you discover freedom from your past.
  1. RECOGNIZE THE CURSE. In order to get set free and stay free, you have to admit you have a problem. That sounds simple, but we live in a day and age of denial. No matter what has happened to us in our lives, each of us are responsible for the choices and decisions we make. If you really want to be free, you will accept that responsibility.
  2. BREAK THE CURSE. As we apply God's Word and power to our lives, and as we choose to walk in righteousness and obedience to God, the chains of bondage will be broken. There are three steps to breaking a generational curse:
  3. (1) Give your life to Jesus; the blood of Jesus removes our sin; (2) Fight the battle with spiritual weapons (such as the Word of God and the armor of God); and (3) Regain control over the power of your will. When Jesus shed His blood, he bought back our willpower. Through the blood of Jesus, we can say no.
  4. REVERSE THE CURSE. There are three keys you can use to reverse the curse and live in victory: (1) Recognize your enemy. We battle not with flesh and blood. Our enemy is Satan, and the battle is spiritual. (2) Forgive people who have hurt you. (3) Treat causes, not symptoms (for example, insecurity, jealousy or fear).
  5. RELEASE THE POWER OF LOVE. To become people whose lives are transformed by the love of God, we must not only get rid of what holds us captive and keeps us in bondage, but we must also be filled up with love--for God, for self and for others. Unconditional love will release blessing. To know more of the love of God in your life, love those who have hurt you, those who have opposed you and those who have sinned against you.
  6. DEVELOP A GODLY ATTITUDE. A good attitude does not make everything go perfectly all the time. Matthew 5:45 tells us that God sends the rain on the just and the unjust. But our attitude determines whether the rain will water the seeds of our harvest or wash those seeds away. Get serious about where you are going with God by getting your attitude lined up with His Word, having faith and trusting in Him.
  7. ALIGN YOUR WORDS WITH GOD'S WORDS. Your words give evidence of your faith, and they should reflect God's good purposes for you. Exchange your negative words for positive words, exchange your negative thoughts for positive thoughts, and exchange your negative actions for positive actions.
  8. ACCEPT GOD'S ACCEPTANCE. Jesus didn't come to condemn us or punish us. He came to give us hope that our lives really can be different. We don't have to live under the burdens of pain, hurt, shame or sorrow. All the power in heaven is available to you to set you free from every chain that binds you. Corrie ten Boom said, "There is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper still."
  9. WALK IN OBEDIENCE. In order to break free from the curses and walk in freedom, you must learn to walk in obedience to God's ways. We don't have to be perfect or without mistakes, but our hearts need to be surrendered and pliable toward God. We need to be moving forward in the things of God every day of our lives. Today's decisions determine our tomorrows. There is a miracle on the other side of your obedience.

Victory Worship's Rise Heart is Now Available!

Victory Worship, a worship team from Philippine church Victory, has released “Rise Heart,” the follow-up to its gold-selling debut release, “Radical Love,” yesterday, October 20.

“’Rise Heart’ is a call to worship,” says Pastor Julius Fabregas, Victory Worship’s Executive Director. “We want our songs to inspire people to know and follow Jesus, and we believe ‘Rise Heart’ will touch people’s hearts in a very special way to lead them in that direction.”

“Radical Love,” which was released in September 2014, was certified gold by the Philippine Association of Record Industry. It spawned the number one radio singles “Radical Love,” “Grace Changes Everything,” and “Jesus My Savior.” Meanwhile, the music videos from “Radical Love” have collectively earned more than two million views on YouTube.

“Rise Heart,” which was recorded live at the Every Nation Building in Taguig City, contains 13 tracks, including six tracks penned by Victory Worship’s colleagues at Every Nation Music, which produces music that creatively expresses passion for Jesus and the mission, vision, and values of Every Nation.

Among the tracks are the radio singles “Rise Heart,” featuring The Voice 2014 quarterfinalist Isa Fabregas, and “Dance in Freedom,” written and sung by Yan Asuncion, who co-wrote “Radical Love.”

“Rise Heart” is now available on iTunes and in CDs at all House of Praise and Life By the Book outlets, and selected SM Record Bars, AstroVision, and Odyssey outlets.

Album Review: Planetshakers' #LetsGo

In the span of just less than two decades, Australia-based Planetshakers has literally shaken the planet with their music. Driven by the desire to empower generations to win generations, the very core of their ministry is to seek the presence of God, first and foremost. And as for their latest album, #LetsGo, they are making a response.

#LetsGo is the second album of the band for 2015 (it follows the successful Outback Worship Sessions which was released in May), and the 33rd in their growing discography.

I was present on the two-night concert of Planetshakers here in Manila last August, and within those nights, Planetshakers played two of the songs on this record. I can still recall Joth Hunt, their lead vocalist, saying Let’s Go is the response for what the “This Is Our Time” season has brought to Planetshakers and to the church as a whole. Indeed, #LetsGo should be the response of each Bible-believing, Christ-worshipping individual, for God has called us to be His hands and feet.

While the #LetsGo DVD has only eight videos on it plus a behind the scene footage, the CD is composed of 12 new songs, one new cover of an oldie (I Just Want You), an intro, and a prayer by Pastor Sam Evans, overall, 15 tracks. Like the other title cuts of Planetshakers’ past albums (This Is Our Time, Endless Praise, Nothing Is Impossible to name a few), #LetsGo has also gained prominence. Given the fact that they have played it in each city that they have visited early this year, I won’t be surprised if it might also reach the peak “Nothing Is Impossible” had reached. Its very youthful vibe is a charm. Plus, it is lyrically rich and powerful.

If there is one lesson that I’ve learned from Planetshakers through the years, that would be to be not reserved in worshipping Jesus—to be sold out and all out for Him. Truly, songs like “Nobody Like You,” “All About You,” and “New Era” reflect which. Each is an addition to their praise party song library; but if you prefer intimate worship songs rather than EDM infiltrated praise cuts, #LetsGo has also a plenty of it. “Home” is the first in line; its anthemic atmosphere compliments the message of the song which is obviously based on the parable of the prodigal son. While “Just One Touch” is musically intense, “Stepping In”, and “I Just Want You” are much simpler and gentle. My favorite track in the album is “Glorious Collision.” Sung by Natalie Ruiz, this poetic worship ballad brings out a lot of power and emotion. Its faith-stirring, heart-piercing, powerful message conveys how our God could turn our life around.

The thing that I love the most about this album is, it is so flavorful and diverse. “Born To Praise,” a Gospel-infused hip hop which I seldom hear from Planetshakers, is a good indicator that they are stretching out their tents. Though I think the first line of its verse is a little bit feminine (maybe written for their Women’s conference), the song as a whole is a celebration of the glorious destiny each one of us has in Christ; and all I can say is, I am looking forward to hearing some more of this genre on their future releases.

At the end of the day, Planetshakers’ #LetsGo did not disappoint. Though all of the songs are lyrically-brilliant, I hope they would dig down on this department just a little bit deeper. Instrumentally, each track is unique and stunning. Overall, this album is pretty incredible and seriously, really, absolutely, their best yet since This Is Our Time!

Jesus Is Lord Church Worldwide Turns 37

My home church, Jesus Is Lord Church Worldwide (JILCW), is turning 37 this month. Holding the theme "Declaring Victory, Exalting Jesus", our anniversary celebration is going to be held on the 23rd (a day before my birthday), 3 PM at Luneta Park, Manila. Everyone is welcome, we invite you to celebrate Jesus with us!

“DECLARING VICTORY, EXALTING JESUS”
1 John 5:4, Philippians 2:11

Declaring victory...

More than anything else, this is an expression of faith. Faith that the God who has done many signs, wonders and miracles in Araullo is the same God who moves in our present-day church... Faith that the different problems and conflicts our church has gone through has all worked together for our good... Faith that in the coming years, victories upon victories upon victories are still bound to happen in this church born in the very heart of God.

Exalting Jesus...

Because every victory must end in thanking the Source of all victories... Because the key to victory is allowing the God of all power to move... Because more than any victory, our church's sole aim is to glorify Jesus, the name above every name.

So in our coming 37th anniversary, and in the years that will come, let us declare, "JESUS IS LORD!"
