Book Review: What Shall this Man Do?

I've been serving in the ministry since I was in second year High School. That’s almost seven years. Through the years I've seen lots of people who come and go and seem confused of their fit or their place in the ministry. I've seen people who hop in and out of different ‘groups’ or so-called ‘church ministries’ and ended-up being a regular churchgoer/ member. The all-time questions are: Where is my place in the ministry? How will I know where God is calling me? What is my role in being saved?

Collected and translated by Angus I. Kinear, this collection of writings of Nee To-Sheng, best known as Watchman Nee will help you find your ‘perfect fit’ and place in the ministry of God. “What Shall This Man Do” gives you deep insights on knowing God’s calling for you. The book specifically focuses on the three essential elements of the Christian ministry through the lives of Peter (Way), Paul (Life), and John (Truth). Through this, Nee reveals how they heard God’s calling, how did they responded to the call and how did they impacted God’s ministry in their response. He also shows the uniqueness of God’s calling to each man, which is more on personal rather than general.

This book is very relevant in our time. Knowing that time is fast approaching, more and more workers and skilled craftsmen are in need for the expansion of God’s kingdom here on earth—preparing the way for our coming King Jesus. All the thick insights filled with great biblical reference will help you know your place in God’s kingdom where He has intended you to be.

Hear God’s voice, and as He calls you, respond and discover your place in the Ministry! I strongly recommend this to anyone who is seeking a deeper life to live with Jesus.

Elevation Worship: Only King Forever {Album Review}

The day we accepted Jesus in our hearts and decided to follow Him, is also the day we were born in the family of God (John 1:12-13). It’s the day when we have fully committed our loyalty and allegiance to Him our Only Lord and King, and we stand and gather under the Banner of the Name who is above all names—Jesus Christ. It’s awesome to be reminded of this, that deep in our hearts we have our King; and it’s the theme of Elevation Worship’s newly released album—Only King Forever.
This 14-cut album is the reflection of what God has been doing in the Elevation Church today. It comprises 12 new songs, one reprise, and a remake of the classic hymn Blessed Assurance, the album also features Darlene Zschech.
With a high level of musicianship, the title track, “Only King Forever” is a very good album opener. I can sense a great anticipation and conviction in every inch of their declaration: “You are the only King forever Almighty God we lift you higher, You are the only King forever, Forevermore, You are victorious.” Knowing that there is always been a high ‘expectation’ for title tracks, this one will not disappoint you.

The entirety of the album is presented with a spirit of authenticity. Songs such as “Glory is Yours”, “Mighty Warrior”, “Great & Mighty King”, and “Unto Your Name” focus on the victory and glory that is found alone in Jesus. Each of these songs is parallel in their message.

Three songs that are worth mentioning for their rich lyrical content are “Grace So Glorious”, “The Love of Jesus”, “Raised to Life”, all are songs about the finished work of Christ, and the benefits of the cross and His redemption. Songs with such theme has become the highlight of many worship albums, because it is close to the heart of congregations. Another song worth mentioning (with the same theme) is the gorgeous remake of the hymn “Blessed Assurance”. The simplicity that turned to intensified worship moment will make your heart pound. The newly-written vamp lines: “Oh what a Savior, Wonderful Jesus, death could not hold You, You are victorious praise to the risen King” formed the peak of the song.

Closing Thoughts:
Elevation Worship is one of many worship bands that are literally changing the sound and atmosphere of worship in the church today— all for God’s greater glory. I am confident of this, that this new record will be cherished greatly by Christians especially musicians and worship leaders. I admire the atmosphere that’s been consistent in the album, which uplifts and stirs up the spirit. Overall, Only King Forever affords you an opportunity to worship God in a fresh and new way.

Planetshakers Kids: Nothing Is Impossible {Album Review}

ALBUM LABEL: Integrity Music
FAVORITE TRACKS: Nothing Is Impossible, I Call You Jesus,
This is the Day, We Cry Out

One of the biggest names in Australian Christian Music Scene, and one of the fastest growing Christian Churches in Australia—Planetshakers brings us their latest album under Kids Praise series, Nothing is Impossible. Released last year 2013, this 15-track album is composed of remakes of the most loved Planetshakers hits for the recent years, tuned up and fitted for children.

What I loved most in the album is its song line up; all of the songs included in the album are in my personal playlist of Planetshakers. The album also includes three scripture readings and prayers that will encourage children to read the Bible and pray.

Surely, children will love to sing the title track “Nothing is Impossible” with its faith-stirring message. The enthusiasm and energy is well consistent. With the same energy, the fourth and fifth song “This is the Day” and “You Are Good” are packed with electronic effects, both are songs of thanksgiving for God’s goodness and faithfulness. Indeed, your hands will be lifted high as you join and sing the sixth track “Put Your Hands Up”, where the children’s voices are noticeably alive. Acts 2:24 was read to introduce the next track, “The Anthem”. The rich worshipful atmosphere emphasizes the victory in Christ. “I Call You Jesus” was a highlight off the album for me, the bold declarations:”Nobody greater than You, nobody stronger than You...nobody bigger than You, no one can do what You do, no name is higher than the name of Jesus,” is simply heart-moving. The last three praise songs: “Let Praise Awaken”, “Get Up” and “Limitless” are awesome remakes filled with loud electronic effects and full of children’s participations. In increasing intensity, “We Cry Out” is a prayer for the healing of the nations and a cry for revival, where at the latter part you’ll hear children of different nationalities praying for their nations; and in ethereal worship moment the album ends with “Great is Your Love”.

Nothing is Impossible album is certainly a must resource for kids and for the children’s ministry. Most of the songs are filled with electronic effects as I’ve stated previously. I presume that some songs are not newly recorded, because I could hear Joth Hunt’s high-pitching voice and Pastor Russell’s, then re-mixed with kids’ voices. Also, I noticed that the songs were made shorter than their original album releases, presumably for the children not to feel “bored” of singing longs stanzas, which is good.

Overall, this record, with its songs, scripture readings plus prayers, gives the children a unique opportunity to worship God while impressing in their hearts the hunger for worship and for more of Jesus in spite of their age. Strongly recommended!
