Victory Worship's Rise Heart is Now Available!

Victory Worship, a worship team from Philippine church Victory, has released “Rise Heart,” the follow-up to its gold-selling debut release, “Radical Love,” yesterday, October 20.

“’Rise Heart’ is a call to worship,” says Pastor Julius Fabregas, Victory Worship’s Executive Director. “We want our songs to inspire people to know and follow Jesus, and we believe ‘Rise Heart’ will touch people’s hearts in a very special way to lead them in that direction.”

“Radical Love,” which was released in September 2014, was certified gold by the Philippine Association of Record Industry. It spawned the number one radio singles “Radical Love,” “Grace Changes Everything,” and “Jesus My Savior.” Meanwhile, the music videos from “Radical Love” have collectively earned more than two million views on YouTube.

“Rise Heart,” which was recorded live at the Every Nation Building in Taguig City, contains 13 tracks, including six tracks penned by Victory Worship’s colleagues at Every Nation Music, which produces music that creatively expresses passion for Jesus and the mission, vision, and values of Every Nation.

Among the tracks are the radio singles “Rise Heart,” featuring The Voice 2014 quarterfinalist Isa Fabregas, and “Dance in Freedom,” written and sung by Yan Asuncion, who co-wrote “Radical Love.”

“Rise Heart” is now available on iTunes and in CDs at all House of Praise and Life By the Book outlets, and selected SM Record Bars, AstroVision, and Odyssey outlets.

Planetshakers LIVE in MANILA [DAY 2] Journal + Concert Setlist

Hi guys! This is the continuation of my yesterday’s blog post which features my Planetshakers concert journal.

The second night of Planetshakers’ concert here in Manila was incredible. Aside from the energetic praise and worship, what I like the most was the time when Rudy Nikkerud exhorted about the all-sufficient, all-access power which our Father in heaven has for us. He has turned his testimony about his early years in the ministry to a powerful message which has challenged everyone.  There was also this profound moment when Sam Evans prayed for healing, and I know many people have been delivered and healed in Jesus’ name.

Truly, I can say that Filipinos love Planetshakers. No wonder that the Australian worship band scheduled two worship nights in the Philippines,

three—including the one in General Santos City. As Joth Hunt always says, Philippines is one of their favorite places.

Just right after the concert, like on the first night, Planetshakers has again made a time for autograph signing—the thing Filipinos are most excited about; but the sad part, this time no more selfies nor picture takings with the band allowed to accommodate all the concertgoers who want their stuff get autographed. Still, I’m so happy because my newly bought Even Greater CD+DVD was signed. :)

As for the setlist, there was no big difference in it on the two nights. As I have promised, I have for you in here the concert setlist for both nights; but please take note that the list I have may be incomplete or jumbled because I had to get out once in a while to go to House of Praise merchandise booth where I was volunteering. Thank you so much for understanding! :)

Album Review: Mandisa's Get Up [The Remixes]

Along with TobyMac’s Dubbed and Freq’d, and Hillsong United’s The White Album, Mandisa’s “Get Up: The Remixes” is probably one of the most brilliant remix albums to date. Boasting 11 tracks, this 2014 remix project of the American Idol 9th Placer presents some of her biggest hits in a very courageous way.

Get Up: The Remixes starts off with the Capital Kings remix of Mandisa’s no.1 hit “Overcomer”—crafted in a heavy electronic vibe. Right at this moment the album mood is being set on a not so high EDM atmosphere, just enough to warm things up. This level of energy lowers as the album reaches its second track “Back To You” in a Neon Feather remix which is a bit slower; but the music regains its energy with “Joy Unspeakable”, its title defines itself—simply a moment pure joy and a whole lot of fun. These first three tracks are from Mandisa’s preceding album, Overcomer.

Energy bangs the roof with another Capital Kings Remix—‘’Good Morning’’. This cut stands out off the album and it will surely waken you up and bring you to the dance floor.

If you’re a Salsa dancer, you’ll certainly repeat the Rawlsco Latin Remix of “My Deliverer” time and again. It is my favorite song off this project; and also my favorite on Mandisa’s ‘Freedom’ album (its first release). I love how the song goes. It is kind of captivating—it will make your body move to the beat, unintentionally.

Another worth-mentioning prime track is “Shackles”. Popularized by gospel duo Mary Mary, this amazing Mandisa rendition in a beautiful remix is my second favorite.

The album ends the same way it started but this time the song intensifies as it ends, with the CB Ultra Run Remix of “Press On”—another track from Mandisa’s ‘Overcomer’ Album.

Overall, as I said in my introduction, Get Up: The Remixes is undeniably one of the most brilliant remix records so far. What I love most about this album is it has a lot of prime cuts. Noted that its songs were taken from Mandisa’s past records, songs got  a makeover—some got a little faster, while some slowed down a bit, but it didn’t change the quality, fun, joy, and fearlessness—all made even better. Strongly recommended!

Album Review: Radical Love by Victory Worship

Victory Worship’s “Radical Love” was released worldwide months ago through iTunes, in the Philippines via House of Praise; and I know for sure its songs are now being enjoyed, sung, and used by churches, musicians, music geeks, and believers not only here in the Philippines but also abroad. Now, for those who haven’t grabbed a copy yet, in this review, I’m gonna tell you why you should go now and do so, because you’re missing a lot!

Comprising 11 tracks, “Radical Love” is Victory Worship’s debut album and it is simply astounding. What I love most about it, is, it is from a Filipino Worship Band! The first song that I heard from it was the title track. It was being played at Saved Radio, and I was curious who the artist was because it’s new to my ears and it caught my attention. I was thinking of a foreign band, but in my surprise, it was from a Filipino artist (don’t get me wrong).

Radical Love is by far the best Filipino worship album I’ve ever encountered. Mixed in Tennessee, there is no doubt the songs from this album are very good in quality. They are all crisp and clear, which makes them soothing to the ears. It’s indeed, a world-class album, and a breakthrough in Filipino Christian music industry.

The best part of the album is the content of the songs. All of the tracks are brilliant—there are no album fillers. Songs are beautifully written
theologically rich, and musically brilliant. My favourite cuts are “Radical Love”, “Grace Changes Everything”, and “Jesus My Savior”. These songs are the heart of the album. Worth-mentioning are the album artists. Each lead singer has justified the message of the song(s) they sung, and they should be commended for which.

Overall, Victory Worship’s “Radical Love” warms my heart and makes me proud as a Filipino. And as I have mentioned earlier it is the best Filipino worship album yet. This just reminds me to give the excellent to the Lord for He is an excellent God. Again, if you haven’t grabbed a copy yet, get now! Available worldwide via iTunes, but I recommend you to get the physical copy, available at House of Praise outlets in the Philippines.

Visit www.VictoryWorship.ph to know more about this group.

Album Review: All Sons And Daughters

Leslie Jordan and David Leonard, the duo behind the group All Sons and Daughters, have given us great music since the release of their debut EP “Season One”. In 2013, they have released their first ever live album; and this year, they’re back with a self-titled project; giving us just the same vibe of folksy-woodsy worship. It features co-writes with Francesca Battistelli, Jason Ingram, Stu G, Derek Webb, Paul Mabury, and Sandra McCracken.

Unlike any other albums, All Sons And Daughters is unique because each track compliments each other. Every song has the same mood, all are emotional. It is just relaxing to listen at; and simplicity is the main element of the record; simple setting; simple musicality. The album just lacks some upbeat songs—a perfect opposite of Rend Collective’s The Art Of Celebration, which has the same genre. Vocally, the songs were given a very good treatment. The vocals of Leslie and David are distinctive, breathy and soothing.

Musically, the songs are pretty interesting, melodious, and elegant. The Victory, the seventh track, is the only upbeat song on the album and it justifies its title, but it also lacks a little more energy. Piano-laced Great Are You Lord is the most congregational, along with You Will Remain, and More Than Anything.

Lyrically, All Sons And Daughters don’t really break any new ground. There is no rise above the often-used generic worship lines for God. King Of Glory (You Restores My Soul) is Psalm 23-inspired, and it is my favorite track on the album. It speaks of the hope in Christ when we are in the valley. Other stand-out tracks include the vocally-creative and harmonious For Your Glory and My Good, and the Christmas message-inspired God With Us.

All Sons and Daughters’ self-titled album may not be on my top albums of 2014 list, but its beauty, class and elegance is stunning. There’s just one thing that I don’t like about the album: the lack of variety and diversity in musicality. Songs fall on a common ground: slow and lonely, making it “slownely” in mood. But in the end, I commend the creative mix of folksy vibe and powerful vocals. A very good record, but not for those who are into upbeat, energetic cuts.

Album Review: Rend Collective's The Art Of Celebration

The Art Of Celebration is a humble attempt to bring back the often disregarded element in worship: celebration. As the group describes, it’s what the Psalmist calls “a joyful noise”. Boasting 13 tracks, this latest offering from Rend Collective gives a very positive and light vibe to the soul.

The first track, Joy, marks an energetic start. Its first line “we’re choosing celebration” is what the album all about. With a greater energy and tempo, Burn Like A Star stands out off the album. It calls us to shine brighter for Jesus, to change the History for His cause. And on the other side, the message of the next song, My Lighthouse, is Jesus shinning upon us. In the darkness, He is the One who leads us through, our peace in our troubled sea.

Musically speaking, The Art Of Celebration is superb in production. Embracing their native origin, Rend Collective chose their Irish folk instruments to give life to the songs. More Than Conqueror stands out in terms of this. The collective instruments in a slow pace complement the message and the vocals. And speaking of vocals, the most vocally-driven song in the album is All That I Am, an exhortation of the life of worship found in Romans 12:2.Laying aside the folky sound, Strength Of My Life, is the most mainstream-sounding cut in the album; finely orchestrated but generic in structure.

The album ends with its title track Boldly I Approach (The Art Of Celebration), which is kind of ironic for me. I assumed and expected it to be the most joyous of all joyous cut in the album, but in the end it’s the most solemn. The song is all about the freedom that Christ has given to humanity when the veil was torn, when He said, “It is finished”. It has given us the freedom and access to approach the throne of Grace in worship. What I love most about this song is the theological richness and truth found on its lyrics. It is the most “worshipful” track on the entire album, and also my favourite.

Indeed, Rend Collective is no longer an Experiment. So far, The Art Of Celebration is their best and finest.  Though some of the songs are not lyrically and theologically in-depth, still, they afford us a unique and different way of worship, with an element of celebration.

Album Review: Bethel Music's You Make Me Brave

In the midst of uncertainties and hopelessness; a world of post-Christian culture, Bethel Music stands to declare the hope and power found in Jesus with their newest live praise and worship album, You Make Me Brave. This 12-track CD+DVD release was recorded live at Redding Civic Auditorium in California at one of Bethel Church’s Women’s Conference Nights; and because of that, all songs were sung by female vocals; including Amanda Cook, Kristene DiMarco, Jenn Johnson, Leah Valenzuela, Steffany Gretzinger, and Kari Jobe.

What God has been impressing now to the hearts of the songwriters of You Make Me Brave is powerfully and prophetically manifested on its songs. Each track declares faith and victory in Jesus—captured in a thick atmosphere of pure worship. These songs are timely for every Christians who are fighting a good fight of faith to fulfill God’s great commission.

The title cut, You Make Me Brave, speaks of our nothingness and vulnerability before God. Written and sung by Amanda Cook, this track is a bold declaration of faith to a God that is for us and not against us; a perfect combination to Kristene DiMarco’s It Is Well, the next song. This is not a new rendition of Scriven’s classic hymn, but it delivers just the same message. The weight of the atmosphere of worship joined by heavy instrumentation, and DiMarco’s breathy vocals make the song my favorite cut.

Previously recorded at her latest live solo album, Majestic, Kari Jobe’s Forever is one of the album stand-outs. It is a good decision for them to add this magnificent track to the song line up. There is no doubt to the impact that this song is bringing to the congregation, for it is the longest worship moment on album, spanning eleven minutes and a half; this may not be your most radio-friendly choice but it really stirs the faith within. Other prime tracks include Gretzinger’s piano-laced We Dance, and Jenn Johnson’s faith-filled Come To Me.

Truth be told, tracks of spontaneous worships don’t really have functions, especially to the worship team. And You Make Me Brave has three of these. As a matter of fact, there are also lots of these on Bethel Music’s preceding albums. Yes, they are good to listen at, but I think they should not count them as songs on their future releases.

You Make Me Brave, literally, is both timely and timeless record for every Christians. It teaches us to trust in God whatever the situations are. It tells us to fear not as we navigate through uncharted territories; for God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). I believe, the songs on You Make Me Brave will speak powerfully to any listener; and will surely give strength to weary souls.

Album Review: Playlist: The Very Best of Israel & New Breed

Israel Houghton is one my all-time favorite Christian Artists. He has released multiple solo albums and numerous collaborations with finest Christian artists. Among which are Darlene Zschech (he’s a co-producer of Darlene’s Revealing Jesus), Michael Gungor, Ricardo Sanchez, Marvin Sapp and many more. There is no question to the gifts and talents that Houghton has. These have given him numerous awards and nominations including: six Dove Awards, three Grammy Awards, two Stellar Awards, and two gold albums. Truly, Israel has been blessed since his birth to Christian Music Industry in 1997.

Excellence in musicality and song writing are very rare to artists today. Either one will have the first and will lack the other, and vice versa. And I must say that these two are so much present to Israel Houghton. His musical gift is so stunning. The variety and richness of his musicality and song writing are breaking musical, denominational, and racial barriers.

“Playlist: The Very Best of Israel & New Breed” is part of Sony Music Entertainment’s “Playlist” titles. This edition featuring Israel and his founded group New Breed gathers 13 of their best songs from their previous albums. If you have all of Israel and New Breed’s discography in your collection, this compilation album will be so irrelevant for you. If ever not, it would still be the same, considering the fact that their previous compilation album “Decade” is still fresh to us.  It is far better when it comes to track listing, which boasts 27 songs; you’ll probably choose it rather than “Playlist”.

On the other side, “Playlist” is still worth-having. If you are new to Israel and New Breed’s songs, this compilation is a very good introduction to you. Having been released two years after “Decade”, it brings four tracks from their “Jesus at the Center” album; such songs are not included on the previous compilation. Another thing is, it features three prominent Gospel artists Michael Gungor, Fred Hammond, and Kirk Franklin with songs “You Have Me/ You Hold My World”, “Surprises”, and “Mercies” respectively. Giving the album extra spice and flavor.

“Playlist: The Very Best of Israel & New Breed” may not be the most powerful and creative compilation album Israel and the New Breed have ever released; but still it shines the glory of our God that is being manifested in their lives. Indeed, Israel Houghton is one of the most brilliant and world-class Christian artists of all time. May God use him more powerfully to touch more lives and to bring greater glory to His name.

Catch Israel Houghton and the New Breed LIVE in Manila at Saved Festival 2014! On October 11th, Saturday, 7:30 PM, at Smart Araneta Coliseum. Tickets are available at Ticketnet: 911555 or visit www.ticketnet.com.ph. You may also call 910.5524 or 910.5352 for tickets.

Album Review: 10,000 Reasons: Kids Worship

Worship Together recently released a new album for Kids called “10,000 Reasons: Kids Worship”. Named after Matt Redman’s hit, this compilation album boasts 15 tracks that will surely attract kids and Sunday school teachers.

There are three things that I like about “10,000 Reasons: Kids Worship”: it is full of honesty and innocence; energetic; and it has a very good track listing. Firstly, the honesty and innocence that is present in the album is simply stunning. This is what I like most about the album. I could feel the heart of each and every kid vocals as they sing. Their heart beats for honest worship. There is nothing sweeter than to hear children singing their worships to Jesus—crying their heart out. As a Sunday school teacher, I love seeing our church’s kids getting deeper in their relationship with their Saviour, and that’s one of the essences of Sunday Schools, to guide children to walk the path where they should go. The album is just that, it is spiritually edifying.

Secondly, 10,000 Reasons Kids Worship is so full of energy and enthusiasm. That’s a very good thing and I must say a juncture in worship albums for Kids. We do not want to see kids to look so bored while they listen to worship songs. Energetic melodies will surely awake them and will bring them to the dance floor.

Lastly, this album’s great track listing gives children an access to current Christian music hits. Songs such as ‘Blessed Be Your Name’, ‘How Great is Our God’, ‘Indescribable’, ‘Here I am To Worship’, ‘Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)’, and the title track ‘10,000 Reasons’ have been today’s church favorites; and yes they are on this album.

‘10,000 Reasons: Kids Worship’ is a very good resource to the church, specifically to Sundays schools, and also to every home where there are children. I am certain of this that kids of different ages will enjoy to sing and dance for Jesus like never before. With its well-chosen track list, exciting energy, and moving honesty, I believe it will be a hit. Do your kids a favour, grab a copy now! I strongly recommend!
